We were honored to welcome Dorit Beinish, the first female head of the Israeli Supreme Court to speak to our 7th and 8th Grades today. Ahead of the visit, 8th Grade students studied some of Israel’s constitutional laws in Ms. Servi’s Jewish Studies classes, and the 7th graders spent some time learning about Former Chief Justice Beinish’s accomplishments.
Ms. Beinish discussed various topics, including the differences between the Israeli and U.S. judicial systems and governments, her path to becoming the first female president of the Supreme Court, and some important legislation passed such as forbidding corporal punishment of children as well as the privatization of prisons. While there were some challenges along the way, Ms. Beinish shared her love for all aspects of her career as a judge and the path leading to it. This was a unique opportunity for both students and adults in attendance to gain firsthand insight into the challenges and significance of serving in such a high-profile position in the country.
Ms. Beinish is the grandmother of two of our Middle School students. We truly appreciate the time she took to visit us!
