Rodeph Sholom School, a Reform Jewish Day School based on the Upper West Side, fosters intellectual curiosity through a challenging independent school academic program in nursery school through 8th Grade. Middle School Humanities Teacher/Department Chair

Supervisor: Sally Meisner, Head of Middle School
Schedule: Full-time

ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle school history and English, designing history and English curriculum, and have successful experience working with middle school aged children and their families. They should be adaptable, collaborative, proactive, personable and warm.


WORK SCHEDULE
Working hours are generally 7:40 AM to 3:45 PM; additional hours may be required in the evenings. Teachers are expected to attend faculty meetings on Thursdays from 3:45 PM until 5:00 PM.


RESPONSIBILITIES
● Teach English and history to middle school students
● Work collaboratively with the Humanities department and other teaching teams on initiatives around pedagogy and curriculum
● Serve as a Middle School advisor
● Possibly serve as Department Chair
● Additional responsibilities, as needed


QUALIFICATIONS
● Enjoys working with middle school aged children, working closely with colleagues and being involved in other aspects of school life
● Shows an appreciation for the craft of teaching, along with a passion for and knowledge of 5-8th grade English and history

Enrollment Associate

ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will have successful work experience in an independent school setting. They should have strong communication, administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills and be flexible, collaborative, proactive, personable, and warm.


WORK SCHEDULE
Working hours are generally 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; additional hours may be required on the weekends and evenings. You will be asked to attend some faculty/staff meetings on Thursdays from 3:45 PM until 5:00 PM.


RESPONSIBILITIES
● Process and track admissions and financial aid applications and schedule all visits;
● Provide excellent customer service to applicant families, faculty, staff, current students and parents through phone, in person, and digital communications;
● Navigate Finalsite Enrollment Management System (“Finalsite”) (previous experience not necessary, as training will be provided, but must be able to follow directions and protocol with attention to detail);
● Utilize Excel and Finalsite to pull and organize data as directed by the Director of Enrollment and Enrollment Manager;
● Create organized lists and spreadsheets, as directed by the Director of Enrollment and Enrollment Manager;
● Schedule and manage registration and set-up for enrollment-related meetings and events, including, but not limited to, parent meetings, applicant visits, tours and Open Houses;
● Support with the creation of materials such as name tags, programs, and flyers for enrollment-related meetings and events;
● Organize individual child evaluations, including coordinating with division assistants to schedule more complex child visits;
● Participate in 2-3 Sunday school visits as well as one-off afternoon/evening fairs as needed;

● Serve as an ambassador for Rodeph Sholom School in interacting with sending schools, peer schools, and multiple other external constituencies;
● Process and ensure timely payment of Enrollment team invoices and AMEX statements;
● Input and manage data within our enrollment management systems (Finalsite, Clarity and Blackbaud). Previous experience is not necessary; training will be provided;
● Assist in managing the calendar for the Enrollment Office and the calendar of the Director of Enrollment;
● Serve as a liaison between the enrollment office and internal staff members such as Division Assistants, the Business Office, and the Camp/After School Team.

English Language Learner Teacher


Supervisor: Rebecca Hammerman, Head of Elementary Division

ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will have successful experience working with elementary and middle-aged children and their families and should have specific training and/or experience in teaching English to students for whom English is not their first language. They should be adaptable, collaborative, proactive, flexible, personable and warm.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Elementary ELL Teacher is responsible for the students’ English Language education. While there are broad guidelines for curriculum, given the ages, academic needs and developmental levels of the students, teachers are given significant latitude to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of their particular students.
The duties of a an ELL teacher include:
● Planning and preparing of lessons
● Evaluating students’ progress; writing and sending out written progress reports for each student
● Preparing and leading parent-teacher conferences twice a year in collaboration with with Head Teachers and/or Learning Specialists
● Supervising and interacting with students during lunch and recess
● Arriving on time to set up the classroom and staying after the school day to clean the classroom and work on planning for the next day
● Working with the grade level teams to share ideas and resources to promote consistency within the program
● Participating in all aspects of school life, including attending team and staff meetings and community events

QUALIFICATIONS
● Has experience and enjoys working with elementary and middle school-aged children
● Has experience teaching children for whom English is not their first language

Middle School Learning Specialist

Working hours are generally 7:40 AM  to 3:45 PM; additional hours may be required in the evenings. Teachers are expected to attend faculty meetings on Thursdays from 3:45 PM until 5:00 PM. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing direct support to students in the Learning Center, one on one and in small groups
  • Helping students develop self-advocacy skills and identify strategies that support their specific learning style
  • Advising a group of Middle School students
  • Carrying out any assigned administrative duties
  • Proactively participating and contributing to the growth of the Learning Center by providing new directions, advocating for academically vulnerable students, and participating in ongoing professional development
  • Supporting teachers and advisors in understanding how to help implement/honor accommodations/neuropsychological evaluations
