Communications and Operations Coordinator

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with experience in an independent school or a similar public-facing setting. You possess a unique blend of administrative expertise and a sharp eye for detail, with the ability to provide high-level copy-editing and communications support while maintaining a warm, professional presence for our community.

WORK SCHEDULE

Working hours are generally 7:45 am to 3:45 pm; additional hours may be required in the evenings. You will be asked to attend some faculty/staff meetings on Thursdays from 3:45 pm until 5:00 pm. This position is a 12-month administrative staff position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations & Lobby Management:

  • Serve as the primary receptionist in the 79th St. lobby, maintaining a warm, welcoming, and helpful presence for all students, families, and visitors.
  • Maintain a professional appearance suitable for a front-facing position in an independent school environment.
  • Exercise a high level of discretion and confidentiality regarding all student, family, and school-related information.
  • Manage Middle School student attendance each morning.
  • Create name tags and other materials as needed for school events (e.g., back-to-school teacher week).
  • Support bus dismissal logistics on an as-needed basis.
  • Coordinate the delivery of student belongings and ensure messages are passed to the appropriate parties.
  • Maintain the physical appearance of the lobby, bulletin boards, coffee station, and bathrooms, liaising with the Facilities team as needed.
  • Coordinate security drills with Security, Facilities, Executive Assistants, and Chief of Staff and Operations.
  • Oversee the proper implementation of onsite events in coordination with the Chief of Staff and Operations, Executive Assistants, Building Manager, Food Service, Communications, Enrollment, and/or Development as needed (e.g., Graduation, All School Shabbats, Alumni Events).
  • Oversee Title I, IIA, IV, and other Federal and State funding grants.

Communications & Media

  • Lead the production, editing, and distribution of school-wide email communications, including the weekly “This Week” newsletter.
  • Regularly create and post mission-driven stories and content on social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram).
  • Manage and update the digital display screens (OptiSigns) weekly in the 79th St. and 84th St. lobbies.
  • Manage the SmugMug photo library, ensuring galleries are built before the start of each school year and providing teachers with secure upload information.
  • Capture event photos/videos and maintain the SmugMug asset database (culling, editing, and organizing albums).
  • Maintain brand standards across all visual designs for social media and print communications.
  • Update and maintain the School Portal and calendar; coordinate and document communications using shared spreadsheets.
  • Assist the Parents Association with collecting or creating materials and their events (e.g., graduation slideshow, skate night displays, staff appreciation, cocktail parties).
  • Support the Director of Communications & Marketing by performing additional communications duties, including, but not limited to, ordering promotional materials and supplies, assisting with video shoots, and updating the website.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Meticulous attention to detail in copy-editing.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Canva, and/or Creative Cloud preferred.
  • Familiarity with Student Information Systems (Blackbaud SIS) is preferred.
  • Graphic design, photography, and video editing experience preferred.
  • Flexible, takes initiative, and maintains a proactive “can-do” attitude.

  • Annual salary range: $55,000-$70,000; commensurate with experience.

Middle School Humanities Teacher

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle school history and English, designing history and English curricula, and successfully working with middle school-aged children and their families. They should be adaptable, collaborative, proactive, personable, and warm.

  • Teach English and History to middle school students
  • Work collaboratively with the Humanities department and other teaching teams on initiatives around pedagogy and curriculum 
  • Serve as a Middle School advisor
  • Additional responsibilities, as needed

JOB DESCRIPTION

Elementary Head Teachers are responsible for the students’ education and safety in the classroom. While there are broad guidelines for curriculum, given the ages and developmental levels of the students, teachers are given significant latitude to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of their particular students. 

The duties of a Head Classroom teacher include:

  • Planning and preparing lessons
  • Evaluating student progress and writing and sending out written progress reports for each student
  • Mentoring the Associate Teacher
  • Preparing and leading parent-teacher conferences twice a year and communicating with families on a regular basis
  • Supervising and interacting with students during lunch and recess 
  • Arriving on time to set up the classroom and staying after the school day to clean the classroom and work on planning for the next day.
  • Working with the rest of the grade level team to share ideas and resources to promote consistency within the program.
  • Participating in all aspects of school life, including attending team and staff meetings and community events.

  • Provide “push-in” support in classrooms 
  • Support grade-level team members by providing resources and facilitating meetings regarding differentiation and best practices

Reduced or Part-time Elementary Music Teacher

Schedule:  Reduced-time (20-29 hours per week)

WORK SCHEDULE

This position will be 50-75% time in the 2026-2027 school year, but may increase in future years. The schedule can be flexible, based on the needs of the school and the teacher.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in grades 1–4. The teacher fosters a joyful learning environment that builds musical skills, creativity, and appreciation for music while supporting students’ social-emotional growth and confidence.

The duties of the Music Teacher include:

  • Teaching music theory with an emphasis on singing, rhythm, and instrumental performance. 
  • Developing robust weekly lesson plans in order to implement the Elementary Music Curriculum.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists to infuse music into the Elementary Division.
  • Coordinating Divisional performances and facilitating rehearsals.
  • Choral instruction for select students on a weekly basis.
  • Band conductor for beginning band and Middle School advanced band.
  • Participating in Arts Department meetings and school-wide arts programming.
  • Possible additional role providing administrative support for after school music lesson program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Music Education or a degree in a related field.  
  • Ability to play piano and/or teach band instruments.
  • Familiarity with the Jewish music canon and holiday-specific songs is preferred.
  • Has experience and enjoys working with Elementary students.

Early Childhood Associate Teachers and Floater Teachers are responsible for working with the Head Teacher in overseeing the experiences of students in their classroom.   • Supporting the Head Teacher in managing all aspects of classroom life, including curriculum planning, group times, weekly newsletters, report writing, and parent conferences.
  • Interacting with children in all areas of the classroom, including the rug area, block area, pretend, and art projects.
  • Supervising and interacting with students during outdoor and indoor gross motor play times.
  • Doing whatever is necessary to help students feel safe and supported in the school environment, including accompanying children to the bathroom, changing diapers if necessary, and comforting and holding upset children, 
  • Arriving on time to set up the classroom and staying after the school day to clean the classroom and work on planning for the next day.
  • Working with the rest of the grade level team to share ideas and resources to promote consistency within the program.
  • Participating in all aspects of school life, including attending team and staff meetings and community events.
