Purim PJ Drive was a Huge Success!
Thank you to our RSS and CRS community for making the Purim PJ Drive a huge success!
All three buildings' collection bins were filled to the brim with new pajamas for women and kids. The pajamas were delivered, along with toothbrushes, toothpaste and cups, to West End Intergenerational Residence (WIR). This organization, located on the Upper West Side, provides temporary housing and support services, including educational and vocational programming and on-site childcare, to homeless young mothers and their children. WIR also provides affordable permanent housing and support services to formerly homeless and low-income older adults. In addition to our pre-Purim PJ collection, during our congregational Megillah reading and Purim shpiel, our community once again boo'd Haman using boxes of dry pasta instead of traditional groggers. The pasta was then donated to West Side Campaign Against Hunger, to help stock the shelves of its supermarket-style food pantry. All of our donations were received with tremendous appreciation and gratitude. One of the four mitzvot (commandments) of the holiday of Purim is Matanot La'evyonim, giving gifts to the poor. Thank you for fulfilling this mitzvah with so much enthusiasm. Your participation truly made a difference.
