Rodeph Sholom School welcomes volunteers with any type of expertise and any amount of time to give. Whether you have an hour to spare or would like to assume an ongoing role, there are many ways to be involved.

Director of Development
President, RSS Parents Association
At Rodeph Sholom School, the Advancement Office manages Alumni Relations, Special Events, and Fundraising. We are thrilled to be celebrating our 50th school year and we are working hard on several events including our Jubilee Gala that will take place on May 13, 2020! There are many ways to help us including joining our auction committee and making Annual Fund calls in support of the school. Contact Julie Sogg Seymour, Director of Development or Sarah Schimmel, Director of Engagement to get involved.
Book Fair - November 7th and 8th
An all-school pizza party kicks off the Parents Association’s signature fall event. There is a story hour for nursery aged children, while K-8 children visit the fair with their classes. All families, faculty, and staff are welcome to shop at any time during the two-day long fair. Volunteers organize all aspects of the Book Fair, set up displays, help children pick out books, serve as cashiers, and more.
Caregiver Breakfast - December 19th
Help acknowledge the important role caregivers play in our community by planning a special opportunity for caregivers to meet one another and get better acquainted with our school administrators.
Celebrate Israel Committee - May 31st
Help plan opportunities throughout the year to enhance the RSS community’s connection to Israel, culminating in our observance of Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s independence day) and our participation in NYC’s annual Celebrate Israel Parade. Volunteer at a t-shirt decorating event, where students are able to use their creativity in decorating their very own RSS t-shirt to wear in the parade!
The Parents Association offers families the opportunity to purchase challah for children to bring home each Friday. Help organize this beloved tradition and/or assist with sorting and distributing challah to the classrooms.
Work to deepen relationships across the classroom by acting as a community builder for your child’s class. Serve as a resource and point person for fellow parents by sharing information, arranging classroom gatherings, and encouraging participation in Parents Association and School events.
CRS Mitzvah Day and Ongoing Programs
Congregation Rodeph Sholom provides many opportunities for families to engage in hands-on community service. Mitzvah Day offers dozens of service projects for all ages on site and throughout the city. Ongoing programs include Backpack Buddies (packaging weekend meals for food insecure children) which will be a monthly opportunity for RSS families after school, the CRS Homeless Shelter (serving 8 men each weeknight from Sept–June), Days for Girls (assembling feminine hygiene kits), and WIN (providing supplies for families transitioning from shelters to permanent housing). CRS offers many additional ways to get involved in synagogue life. Contact Ruth Bernstein to learn more about volunteering for the congregation.
The Divisional Shabbats provide a chance for families to come together by Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle School Divisions. Each Shabbat is tailored to the respective children's age group and includes dinner and fun for the whole family. Help plan these meaningful events for our community and/or assist during the event.
Skate Night at Chelsea Piers - January 30th
An all-school event held at the Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers. With the rink reserved just for RSS, it’s a fun night of skating, dinner, surprises, and much more! Assist with planning the evening’s festivities, or spend some time helping out during the event.
Parent Lecture Series
Bring your ideas to the table and help us organize educational lectures, discussions, and classes on a wide range of topics including child development, using technology safely, and parenting support.
Rodeph Sholom School Libraries
Volunteer in one of our three school libraries. Cover and repair books, prepare classroom materials, organize inventory, and more.
Help RSS families engage in acts of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). Organize hands-on, age-appropriate service projects, coordinate quarterly donation collections, and/or help plan and orchestrate a meaningful year-end Family Service Day for the entire RSS community.
Shabbat and Holidays
Join in the RSS tradition of making Shabbat and Jewish holidays a special time for our community. Enjoy connecting with families as you serve challah and hand out holiday treats.
Help build school spirit by volunteering at one of our quarterly spirit wear sales.
Each spring the Parents Association takes time to recognize our teachers, administrators, and staff. Help plan fun and unique ways to say thank you to all those who care for our children every day.
