The goal of the athletics program is to foster the students’ enjoyment of competitive sports through teaching sportsmanship, individual skills, and understanding of rules and team strategies.
Most teams compete in interscholastic games or meets. In general, athletics at the 5th/6th grade level stresses teamwork, participation and fundamental skill development. The 7th/8th grade program is significantly more competitive and physically rigorous, but fundamental skills are still the primary goal.
Practices and games are held at various athletic venues throughout NYC. Team schedules will be available on the website. In addition, our Sportsline (646-438-8550 ext. 2733) is updated daily to include the day’s athletic events. Please note that games and practices are occasionally played on non-designated days. We do occasionally have morning practices.
Please be aware of the following dismissal procedures:
- All pick-ups take place at 168 West 79th Street.
- Transportation is provided to and from off-campus practices and games.
- Of course, you are welcome to take your child home after a game or meet. If you would like your child to go home with someone other than yourself from an athletic event, please email the athletic director.
- Students without a parent present must return to 79th street for dismissal.
We will provide a snack for the players in the program; outside food is not permitted in the building.
We look forward to seeing you at the games!
Sincerely,
Director of Physical Education and Athletics
