A Letter from Leslie Silverstein
December 7, 2016
In September, RSS Parent Allison Oppenheim wrote a beautiful reflection
on what comprises her “RSS Story:” a warm feeling of inclusiveness from an open community after a frenetic relocation. “We were instantly overwhelmed by [RSS’s] warmth, their willingness to help and their welcoming spirit. We knew we had found a new home and it was only then that we confirmed our move,” Allison wrote.
As the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, I have the opportunity to hear so many fantastic “RSS Stories” each year, and I am thrilled that RSS Connect is spearheading this new column highlighting the experiences of individuals in our community. There are so many different families who apply to RSS, yet the common thread that runs through each prospective and current parent is a strong desire to send their children to a school that places an emphasis not only on excellent academics, but also the Jewish values that are pillars of their own families.
We welcome and celebrate an incredibly diverse background of parents, from interfaith and same sex couples to international families looking for a new home in New York City. As the year kicks off and you begin to cumulate your own “RSS Stories”, I hope you’ll consider sharing your experiences with a column of your own.
