From the Head of School

Welcome to Rodeph Sholom School!

I invite you to learn more about this exceptional community and place of learning that my family and I have discovered. Children at RSS are excited about school and embrace joyful learning. With a program intentionally designed to support students from early childhood through early adolescence, we allow children to be children - while simultaneously preparing them for success in high school and beyond. RSS is both well established and continuing to evolve, as we build upon 49 years of excellence in education.

Steeped in thousands of years of traditions and values, yet with a forward-looking educational program, we develop self-confident students who matriculate to top high schools ready to take on the world and seek to make it a better place. Our curriculum integrates the best of secular and Jewish learning, building knowledge and skills in math and science, the arts and humanities, and Hebrew and Jewish studies. As they move through our challenging academic program, our students find their voice and build their skills to self-confidently impact their communities. Further, we embrace a partnership with families as we seek to raise value-centered children in our increasingly complex world.

A wide range of families choose RSS, from those who grew up observant to those in secular, interfaith families. There is more than one way to be Jewish here; all of our students actively determine what is right for them as they learn and grow. Along with Congregation Rodeph Sholom, we support children’s growth and learning in partnership with their families.

The world we live in today, more than ever, calls forth our mission to develop young people who see it as an imperative to be agents of change toward greater equality and justice in the world, and to have Tikkun Olam - the desire to repair the world - at the center of their values. As the only Reform Jewish independent school in the region, and one of only 12 in North America, we have a unique opportunity to graduate outstanding leaders ready to make a true impact in their communities.

We are eager to get to know you and to share how we stand out as a distinctive option in the landscape of New York schools. I hope you will take the time to visit us and to learn more.

Sincerely,
Danny Karpf
